Your Beckley Pediatric Dentist
Get To Know Dr. Payton Southall
Dr. Southall was born and raised in nearby Fairmont, West Virginia. From an early age, she had an interest in science. When she got orthodontic treatment as a teen, she found the process fascinating and decided on dentistry as her career. Above all else, Dr. Southall was drawn to how dentists were able to make a real difference in the lives of their patients.
Dr. Southall went to West Virginia University for her B.S. in biology and then attended the WVU School of Dentistry for her dental degree. During this time, she fell in love with pediatric dentistry and decided she was meant to work with kids.
After graduating with her dental degree, Dr. Southall went to Ohio State University for a one-year pediatric dental service fellowship. After that, she obtained her Pediatric Dentistry Certificate and MDS from The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC).
As a pediatric dentist, Dr. Southall loves being able to make a positive impact on her patient’s lives, watch them grow, and set them up for a lifetime of healthy smiles. Her goal is to make dentistry fun, stress-free, and less intimidating for kids of all ages.
When she’s not hard at work at Pediatric Dentistry of Beckley, Dr. Southall loves hiking and searching the great outdoors of West Virginia for the very best waterfalls. She also loves finding new local coffee shops, cooking up delicious dishes at home, and spending quality time with her family and friends.
Meet The Team
From the moment you enter Pediatric Dentistry of Beckley, our team will make you and your family feel welcome. Want to meet our friendly faces? Get introduced to them below, or meet us in person by scheduling an appointment for your child today.
Your Child’s First Visit
What To Expect
After checking in with our front office team, you and your child can relax until it’s time for their visit. One of our team members will bring you and your little one back to one of our comfortable operating rooms.
Then, Dr. Southall will perform a comprehensive oral exam. If necessary, our team will take X-rays to look for signs of hidden oral health issues, too. Dr. Southall will discuss her results with you, and whether your child needs any further treatment beyond their next routine six-month checkup.
After their exam, one of our dental hygienists will clean, floss, and polish your child’s teeth to leave them squeaky clean. Then, you’ll need to stop by our front desk once more before you leave to schedule their next appointment. That’s it!
What to Bring
It’s a good idea to bring a couple of toys and/or a comfort item with you for your child’s first appointment. Beyond that, you’ll also need:
- A credit or debit card
- Insurance card (if applicable)
- Past dental records (if available)
- Medication list/health history
Office Comforts & Technology
Introduce the tech and amenities and how this enhances the patient experience.
TVs
With TVs in every room, your kids can enjoy their favorite shows during their visit. Just let us know what they’d like to watch!
Digital X-Rays
With digital X-rays, we can get incredible insights into your child’s oral health. Digital X-rays are faster, use minimal radiation, and offer better image quality than old-fashioned film-based X-ray machines.
Quiet & Private Rooms
Our operatories are comfortable, quiet, and private. And in most cases, parents are welcome to sit with their kids during their treatment.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Laughing gas sedation helps nervous kids relax, feel more comfortable, and get dental care with less stress. It wears off quickly, too, so you and your little one can get right back to your daily routines.
Hospital Privileges
Dr. Southall can offer advanced dentistry services for pediatric patients in a hospital setting. This includes special needs care, general anesthesia, and more.
Fun Kids’ Play Area
Dentistry doesn’t have to be scary! We’ve got a children’s play area with tons of activities, games, and books for kids of all ages. You and your kids can sit back, relax, and even have a bit of fun before their visit.
Giving Back To Our Community
We’re Looking For Partners
We’re proud members of the Beckley community. It’s an honor and a privilege to be able to care for the children of our friends and neighbors.
But we’re looking for other ways to become involved in the community, too! If you have any ideas for charitable partnerships or local sponsorships, please get in touch. The Pediatric Dentistry of Beckley team would love to hear from you.
